Casey's birthday was coming up and really I had not been in the mood to be going out. We were busy finishing our bedroom and bathroom as well as taking things to storage and going through things to have everything ready for the new baby. I was swollen head to toe and miserable. Liams therapies and appointments did't make it any easier. Casey had to take time off from work to help since my swelling was so bad that not a single pair of shoe fit. Not even flip flops and walking hurt. Still Casey's birthday was here and I felt terrible if we didn't celebrate it. He invited me to watch X-men and I accepted. Besides I had been having contractions for too long and I was going to be induced the next morning at 7 am Mary 29 aka Casey's birthday. Doctors idea not ours but we didn't fight it. My bags for the hospital were ready to go. It had been a long day and even if I had to walk some I was extremely hungry and thought a movie could be relaxing. I wanted to go early but I was busy nesting tat we ended up going later. Movie started at about 7 pm. Contractions were not any different. They had always been painful and consistent but I wasn't physically changing. Two days before I was still at 4 and 50%. The movie started and I ordered a pizza. This was not just a slice. I believe it was a 6 slice. Yes. I finished it. I regret nothing! For some reason now that I was sitting the pain was unbearable. I promise that ever time Magneto did something I was having a contraction as if he was causing it. I recognized the guy sitting next to us. We (Casey and I ) had graduated with him in the same class. The only thing that worried me was being talked about on facebook. I didn't want to be the girl who had a baby during x-men. Still I wanted to finish watching. There I was breathing through the entire movie. Every 7 minutes for about a minute and a half. When it was over yes I stayed for after the credits but when that was over I thought I wasn't going to make it to the car. It was hard to walk. It was another over 30 mintues to home and then another over 30 minutes to the hospital. Yes I was calculating in my head how much time I possibly had. So we went home and I made sure kids were in bed, bag was ready, home was clean to come home to and told parents we would be back with a brand new baby.
We arrived to Hunt Regional Hospital at midnight and was checked in since I was going to be induced in 7 hours. I was checked and placed on the monitor and was told I was only at 4 and hadn't changed from that Monday. I was told to rest and I would be checked in 2 hours. I was sure that my water had broken weeks ago but I was assured that I hadn't. Those two hours passed. Nothing changed. I needed to go to the restroom. The nurse left and came back and I was still in there. Nothing was coming even if I was pushing but I still had the urge. So I just walked out and right when I got onto the bed a HUGE gush came out. Casey called the nurse. It was about 3 am. The nurse checked me and said my bag was still there. But they found whatever had gushed out was a weird texture. So she sent it for testing. Later another nurse came and checked me but another 3 nurses came in with her. While they set up the baby stuff I was getting checked. When she was done she said "The Midwive is on her way and we called the Anesthesiologist and he is on his way. They will be here in about 15 minutes. If you feel like pushing just let me know." It had only been about 45 minutes since the big gush when she whispered to the other nurse "She's 8-9." WHAT?! The pain was definitely unbearable but even if I felt like I could do it I was worried that my incision would open up and I wouldn't have the epidural in place like I was suppose to. The entire time my contractions were off the chart but now there were seconds between them. Apparently my water had broken. No one knew how long ago since the bag was still there. They believed it was up high that it ruptured. The weird texture was meconium. Uh oh. The urge to push was here. "I feel like pushing." Too late it was like my body was doing it all on its own.
When she checked me I was ready. My body was ready but unnamed child was up high. Finally the Anesthesiologist had arrived so even during a contraction he placed it in. Never had I felt so much pain. Since it was last minute it was an emergency so it was effective minutes after and was suppose to last until the baby was born since I was fully dilated and effaced. For an hour I pushed and the baby wouldn't come down. The epidural was long gone and I was still in pain and no baby. They gave me another hour to rest but with the pain I couldn't. Anesthesiologist was back to give me the epidural again and a button to push. I got some sleep until I felt the urge to push again. Baby was ready this time. Lots of pushing and some time later baby was here. Although there was a lot of pain there was no tear, but his chest was bigger than his head. They handed him to me immediately after. An experience I had not had before. Eliana was a cesarean. She was in NICU for 12 hours and I didn't get to hold her for 14 hours. Liam was in NICU for 48 as soon as he was born. I held my new baby for an hour before he was also taken to NICU. Luckily he stayed in the room with me where I could breastfeed him. His birth was definitely something new. He was born 21.25 inches and weighed 8 lbs 7 oz. My biggest baby. His first day on this earth and he was smiling and trying to prove how strong he was and that he could hold his head by himself. I was alone when I signed off his name as Adam Jonah. I texted Casey the name and he liked it. Others didn't agree as much but I think it is perfect for him. My mom stayed with me next couple of days. Adam was being checked for several things and we were told to watch that he didn't show signs for a month or else he could develop meningitis or something else but that time passed and he is one healthy chunkers.
When Liam first met him, he was very excited about his hair. He kept touching it. Eliana fell in love just like she did with Liam. I know they are going to be great buddies, these three.
